Crewing Supervisor

As a part of our Crewing Team in the Strait of Gibraltar, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the crewing operations for our seafarers from the Moroccan side of the Strait where we have offices in Tangier which will be you workplace on a daily basis. This role will give you the opportunity to ensure the smooth operation of crewing, recruitment, training, and regulatory compliance while contributing to the ongoing success of our vessels.
About the role
As a Crewing Supervisor at DFDS, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of crewing, ensuring that personnel management, training, and compliance functions are handled effectively. Reporting to the Crew Manager based in Algeciras, Spain, the Crewing Supervisor is accountable for overseeing and optimizing the crewing, Human Resources, Personnel, and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) functions for Seafarers. This role involves managing the operational aspects of crewing, Marine HR, implementing systems and processes, and ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks.

Key Responsibilities
- Personnel Management: Oversee maritime personnel procedures, ensuring compliance with international standards and DFDS internal policies as well as local Labour laws and regulations for local contracted people working onboard our vessels. This also includes overseeing planning off shifts and new schedules onboard.
- Recruitment & Onboarding: Administer the hiring process for marine personnel, ensuring alignment with staffing needs and maritime regulations.
- Performance Management: Coordinate performance reviews for seafarers, ensuring alignment with safety and operational standards.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to STCW, ILO, MLC and other maritime regulations across the fleet.
- Career & Succession Planning: Develop career progression plans for maritime personnel, ensuring they meet industry standards.
- Training & Development: Oversee training programs, ensuring compliance with safety and operational requirements. When needed, negotiate with training providers to secure availability locally.
- Dispute Resolution: Provide timely and effective solutions to work-related disputes, maintaining adherence to Marine HR and other company policies. This includes handling all disciplinary cases that might occur.
- OHS Compliance: Ensure full compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations, including enforcing safety protocols including handling medical sick leaves according to process.
- Compliance & Documentation: Ensure timely completion of all required documentation and certifications for maritime personnel.
About you
We are looking for a highly organized and solution-oriented individual who has a passion for maritime operations. The ideal candidate will possess:
- Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Maritime Academy, or a related field, or previous experience that is considered equivalent to this.
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years’ experience from the maritime sector
- Languages: Fluent Moroccan, advanced proficiency in English. French is considered an asset.
- Technical Skills: Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, familiarity with Maritime legislations (STCW, ILO, MLC, etc.) and familiarity with Moroccan Labor Laws.
- Leadership Skills: Strong leadership skills, abilities to motivate and support a team of seafarers, fostering a positive and productive work environment. Also being able to build and maintain good relationships with local stakeholders.
- Miscellaneous: Driving licence for car. Must be willing to go on our ships, and also travel to Spain for meetings from time to time.
